On Nov. 12, the Talented Scholars Network (TSN) brought learning to life at Evergreen Elementary School in Carol Stream through a powerful day of service and leadership.
TSN is District 88’s Black Scholars Honors Network, created to celebrate academic excellence, leadership and cultural pride among Black students at Addison Trail and Willowbrook. The program empowers members to lead with purpose, build community and give back through meaningful educational outreach.
During their visit, 28 TSN members visited 14 classrooms, teaching financial literacy lessons through Junior Achievement’s High School Heroes Program. They guided elementary students through hands-on activities about saving, spending and making smart financial decisions. The young learners were fully engaged and inspired by seeing high school role models who looked like them leading the way.
The day was a wonderful example of connection, confidence and community impact. TSN scholars walked away with a deeper sense of purpose, while Evergreen students gained lessons that will last well beyond the classroom. Together, they proved that when students teach students, everyone learns and grows.
