District 88 is thrilled to continue its “88 in 88" video series. This communication piece was launched in 2024-25, and segments feature about 88 seconds of news and highlights from the district to help keep stakeholders connected and informed.
The most recent episode highlights the District 88 Foundation. This group is a member of the Partnership for Inspired Education (PIE) Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that serves public school students in District 88 and its associated elementary school districts. Each year, the PIE and District 88 foundations host and participate in a variety of events to raise money that directly benefits local students.
Last year, the District 88 Foundation hosted its inaugural Gathering at the Grapevine fundraiser. More than 70 people attended, and the event raised about $13,500. The foundation will host its second annual Gathering at the Grapevine on Sept. 20, and all parents, alumni, staff, community members and friends are invited.
The day will feature a wine tasting, an array of charcuterie and dessert items, live music, raffle baskets and more. Most importantly, it will support a great cause, as proceeds will fund mini-grants to implement innovative, teacher-led initiatives that will benefit students, which could not otherwise be funded through the district’s budget. Since the foundation implemented mini-grants in 2013-14, 102 mini-grants have been awarded, and more than $78,600 has been secured for students. Last year, mini-grants included advanced 3D printing, technology for podcasts and art curriculum, expanding cultural experiences, hands-on projects to learn about mathematics in construction and more.
This year’s Gathering at the Grapevine fundraiser will take place from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sept. 20 and is generously hosted by DeVine in Villa Park. For event details, and to get your tickets, go to www.dupage88.net/GatheringAtTheGrapevine2025. The first 50 registrations will receive a souvenir wine tumbler.
The foundation also invites all businesses, corporations and individuals to be part of the event through sponsorships and donations. For more information, and to view a list of event sponsors (which will continue to be updated), go to www.dupage88.net/GatheringAtTheGrapevine2025.
