District 88 Board of Education President earns state-level recognition, honored as an INSPRA Distinguished Service Celebration recipient

On May 16, District 88 Board of Education President Donna Craft Cain (pictured above) was honored as a Distinguished Service Celebration (DSC) recipient by the Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (INSPRA). That program recognizes individuals and groups throughout the state who partner with their school communications office to serve as ambassadors for public education and champions of students and staff. Craft Cain has served the learning community of District 88 for more than 20 years. Craft Cain is the epitome of a leader focused on strengthening support for public education – and she has an uncanny ability to represent all stakeholders, while staying focused on what’s best for all students.

Craft Cain has served on the District 88 Board of Education since 2004 and has been Board President since 2011. She also is an alumna of Willowbrook, is a parent of three district graduates and is a longtime resident and business owner in the District 88 community. Those experiences enable her to see the district from various perspectives and excel as Board President.

Throughout her years of service, Craft Cain has helped:

  • Update the district’s strategic plan to be culturally responsive and include an online data dashboard

  • Expand work-based learning experiences for students, including implementing flexibilities/changes to the district’s graduation requirements and getting stakeholders behind this shift

  • Add incentives for teachers to pursue endorsements to develop skills and knowledge to better assist students

  • Provide students with a variety of opportunities to share their voice, including having events for targeted groups of pupils

  • Support and advocate for the communications/community relations department through promoting the district’s electronic newsletter and social media and attending events

Through her leadership, vision and commitment, Craft Cain has ensured positive futures for thousands of students and families and has truly left a lasting impact on public education.
