On April 11, more than 50 students from Willowbrook, Addison Trail, Lyons Township, Hinsdale Central and West Leyden participated in a Night of Noise at Willowbrook.
The evening was a culminating event to gather together after participating in the Day of (No) Silence. According to https://nationaltoday.com/national-day-silence/, this is “a campaign that seeks to shed light on what many LGBTQ youth experience daily.”
During Night of Noise, participants enjoyed games, food, music, celebration and camaraderie. The goal is to bring attention to ways schools and communities can become more inclusive. Leaders of Willowbrook’s Genders & Sexualities Alliance Network (GSA) club broke the silence and began the festivities with a powerful message, and two club members gave closing remarks to share what the event has meant to them (pictured above).
The event also unveiled Willowbrook’s new Adopt A Bench program, which will provide an opportunity for students, clubs, organizations, teams, etc. to demonstrate their Warrior Pride, as well as add more seating in the courtyards (proposals to paint/decorate the benches must be submitted and approved by administration). Night of Noise participants were invited to leave fingerprints on one of the benches (pictured above).
