On March 15, about 24 families who are part of the Padres Latinos en Acción group at Addison Trail and the Padres Unidos group at Willowbrook attended a “Desayuno Motivacional” (Motivational Breakfast) at Crystal Sky Banquets in McCook.
The keynote speaker was Dr. Ferney Ramírez, a respected psychologist and coordinator of bilingual parent-education programs. Dr. Ramírez shared how parents can be more supportive of their children and discussed the importance of family and education in the lives of students.
District 88 is proud to have a diverse school community – more than 50 languages are represented among its families, and almost half of the nearly 4,000 students at District 88 speak a language other than English at home. District 88’s core values include ensuring all students, staff and community members feel safe, valued, respected and welcome. The “Desayuno Motivacional” and programming offered by the district for Spanish-speaking families is one way to accomplish that goal.
