District 88 Board of Education recognized during Illinois Association of School Boards DuPage Division meeting

On March 5, Addison Trail hosted the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB) DuPage Division meeting.
Below are highlights from the event.
- Participants toured Addison Trail’s new culinary arts area.
- The District 88 Board of Education received the following honors:
- School Board Governance Recognition: This designation acknowledges school boards that learn and practice effective governance behaviors as identified in the IASB’s Foundational Principles of Effective Governance, through participation in and support for board development programs and events. Effective school boards understand that excellence in local school board governance requires full board commitment to obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities critical to good governance. For more information, go to https://www.dupage88.net/site/page/16339. This is the second time the District 88 Board of Education has received this honor (the first time was in 2022).
- Board Leader Recognition Program: This program recognizes school board members for individual time and effort devoted to learning and leadership activities provided by the IASB and for service to the public education community. - District 88 Board of Education President Donna Craft Cain was recognized as a Distinguished Board Leader (Annual Merit Recognition). Craft Cain has served on the District 88 Board of Education since 2004 and has been Board President since 2011. She also is an alumna of Willowbrook (class of 1981), is the parent of three District 88 graduates and is a longtime resident and business owner in the District 88 community. Craft Cain is a Director-at-Large for the IASB as well.
- District 88 Board of Education Vice President Daniel Olson was recognized as an Established Board Leader. Olson has served on the District 88 Board of Education since 2019 and has been Board Vice President since 2021. He is the parent of three Willowbrook graduates and also served as a board member on the Willowbrook Athletic Booster Club.
- District 88 Board of Education Member Diana Stout was recognized as an Established Board Leader. Stout has served on the District 88 Board of Education since 2021. She is the parent of three Willowbrook graduates and also served as a member of the District 45 Board of Education for eight years.

- Delegate: District 88 Board of Education Member Christine (Chris) Poirier was recognized as a 2024 Delegate for the IASB. For more information about that position, go to https://www.iasb.com/advocacy/delegate-assembly. Poirier has served on the District 88 Board of Education since 2021. She is the parent of two Willowbrook graduates and also served on many school committees, including the Citizens Advisory Council (CAC), the Parent Transition/Reopening Committee, the Willowbrook Music Booster Club and the Willowbrook Parent Organization (WPO).
- The keynote speaker for the evening was Ken Wallace, Ed.D., who presented on “Why and What Before Where – The Key Factors Driving Design Thinking to Prepare Students for a Changed Economy.” Dr. Wallace discussed the importance of developing a community-wide program to provide students with work-based learning experiences in a variety of pathways to help ensure they are career and college ready. He also shared information regarding implementing an individual career/return on investment (ROI) plan for each student to guide each child to a successful future.
