Make a lasting impact in your community through supporting the Three Fires Scouting for Food service project

Are you looking for a way to give back and make a positive difference in your community? Support the Three Fires Scouting for Food service project to help address food insecurity in your neighborhood!

Last year, the Addison Scouts collected about 5,000 pounds of food during their annual food drive, and they’re looking to increase that impact through coordinating this inaugural council-wide food service project. Currently, 61 other Scout units have joined the effort, expanding the reach to DuPage, DeKalb, Kendall, Kane, Will and Cook counties. Items collected will be donated to food pantries in each town.

Scouting for Food began in St. Louis. This past year, the St. Louis Council collected 1.7 million cans of food the weekend before Thanksgiving. And the Three Fires Scouting for Food service project has a goal to eventually collect even more!

There are three ways you can support the project.

  1. Storefront locations: On the following dates, Scouts will be at local Jewel-Osco and Angelo Caputo's locations to request/collect donations.
  • March 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16
  1. Food pickup: In March, Scouts will place door hangers on homes to request donations. They will return the next weekend to pick up items. Specific details will be listed on the door hangers.

  2. Financial support: The Scouts have partnered with Northern Illinois Food Bank to accept monetary donations online. Every $1 donated equals about $8 in food going to a local food bank selected by the respective Scout unit. See the links below to make a donation in your area.
