District 88 science departments share college/career pathway opportunities available to students

District 88 is committed to providing multiple and flexible pathways for students to ensure they are college and career ready, and that focus is embedded in each curricular area.

During the Feb. 3 District 88 Board of Education meeting, Addison Trail Science Department Head John Fouser and Willowbrook Science Department Head David Garcia shared the science-related college and career pathway opportunities that are available for District 88 students. These include:

    • Project Lead The Way (PLTW) courses, which prepare students with career-readiness skills for future roles in health care and offer college-credit opportunities
    • Biology (AP and dual-credit options available)
    • Chemistry (AP and dual-credit options available)
    • Med Careers (dual credit)

  • Animal Systems (click on the link for more about this pathway)
    • AP Environmental Science 
    • Biology (AP and dual-credit options available)

  • STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (click on the link for more about this pathway)
    • Chemistry (AP and dual-credit options available)
    • Biology (AP and dual-credit options available)

    • Engineering (college-credit options available)

Fouser and Garcia shared plans to expand these offerings, to give students even more options. They also discussed how the science courses incorporate literacy skills, with a focus on vocabulary, writing structures and cooperative learning.
