To recognize and celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month, students in the District 88 Transition Program recently ran a Halloween-candy delivery business for District 88 staff members.

The students (guided by Transition Program staff members Stephanie Nitka and Amanda Wilson) collected orders, researched stores for discounted prices, made a shopping list, shopped within a budget, filled out and organized order forms, created and distributed invoices, collected payment and delivered the items.

According to https://www.dol.gov/agencies/odep/initiatives/ndeam, “Observed each October, National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM) celebrates the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities past and present and showcases supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices that benefit employers and employees.”

The District 88 Transition Program helps individuals ages 18 to 22 who have a variety of abilities learn life skills, obtain job training at local vocational sites in a community setting and transition to a life of independence after District 88. Read more at dupage88.net/TransitionProgram.
