Eye on Education: District 88 hosts summer school for students

This week’s topic is District 88’s summer school program. It might be summer break, but many students have been hard at work completing academic courses.

Classes took place from June 5 to 29 and focused on helping students earn credit to stay on track for graduation, as well as providing an opportunity for students to get ahead with graduation requirements.

  • Courses offered at Addison Trail were Public Speaking and Communication, Online Consumer Education and Consumer Education.

  • Courses offered at Willowbrook were Public Speaking and Communication, Consumer Management (an online option was available), Health (online format) and Driver Education (classroom course).

Highlights from summer school include:

  • In our credit recovery programs, Addison Trail had 157 students participate, and Willowbrook had 136 students. Overall, 86 credits were earned at Addison Trail, and 161 credits at Willowbrook. The greatest number of credits earned in the direct instruction courses were in English 9 and Biology.

  • In the summer credit advancement programs, 60 students earned credit in Introduction to Speech, and 28 in Online Consumer Management at Addison Trail. At Willowbrook, 38 students earned credit in Introduction to Speech, and 42 in Online Consumer Management. Every student who participated in advancement courses earned credit.

District 88 is proud to provide an experience for students to not only receive extra time and practice to recover credits, but also to allow them to expedite their earning of specific credits and advance their learning.
