District 88 celebrates National School Counseling Week 2023

From Feb. 6 to 10, District 88 celebrated and recognized National School Counseling Week 2023.

This annual event is sponsored by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA), and this year’s theme is “School Counselors: Helping Students Dream Big.” The week is an opportunity to highlight the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career and also provides recognition for comprehensive school counseling programs. For more information, go to https://www.schoolcounselor.org.

  • As part of the week, the Addison Trail Counseling Department was recognized on Feb. 9 by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) for excellence in supporting the class of 2022 through the financial aid process by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Areli García, ISACorps Member, presented the department with a banner in honor of this accomplishment (see the image above). The FAFSA is a way for students to access federal grants, work-study and loans. Completing the FAFSA is a graduation requirement for Illinois students (seniors who choose not to complete the FAFSA must fill out a waiver). • Willowbrook hosted a School Counselor Appreciation Week, and each day had a different theme (see the image above).
