District 88 is committed to developing and expanding partnerships with colleges/universities to provide students with access to college-level courses.

One of those strong collaborations is with Elmhurst University. District 88 and the university have implemented opportunities for Addison Trail and Willowbrook students to earn college credit in the areas of math, English and social studies.

On Oct. 8, 45 Willowbrook students visited Elmhurst University, and 17 Addison Trail students will go to the campus on Oct. 22.

Those students are enrolled in District 88’s new Equity and Justice in America course, which provides pupils with the ability to receive credit for Elmhurst University’s Equity and Social Justice course. The course is taught by Willowbrook social studies teacher Matthew Clapper and Addison Trail social studies teacher Jose Hernandez, in conjunction with Elmhurst University professors. Participants in this class will explore the minority experience in the U.S.

During their visit to Elmhurst University, students toured the campus, enjoyed lunch and met with Dr. Karen Benjamin, Associate Professor in the Department of History.
