The mission of District 88 is to work for the continuous improvement of student achievement.
As part of that mission, the district remains focused on researching and implementing opportunities to challenge students academically and expose them to college-level rigor. This year, the Career and Technical Education (CTE) departments at Addison Trail and Willowbrook are working with College of DuPage (COD) to offer sophomores, juniors and seniors dual-credit courses.
“Dual-credit is a wonderful way for our students to experience college-level coursework while still being taught by District 88 teachers in the comfort of their high school,” said Mary Barney, Willowbrook CTE Department Chair.
She added the courses are provided to students at no extra cost, and the credits they earn can be transferred to most colleges/universities in Illinois, as well as many out-of-state colleges/universities.
Addison Trail CTE Department Chair Juliann Boudouris said District 88 staff members who teach the dual-credit courses must follow hiring guidelines set by COD and are required to apply and be approved as an instructor. The course curriculum and syllabus also must be submitted and approved by COD.
To register for a course, students should sign up through their CTE teacher and check with their counselor to make sure space is available. Students are encouraged to enroll in dual-credit classes second semester.
