District 88 Board of Education approves four initiatives to provide financial relief for District 88 families

At District 88, we are committed to building positive and collaborative relationships with our families and community members. We have heard from many of our families that they are dealing with hardships as a result of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, including financial challenges, and would appreciate any assistance we can provide in this area.

In response to these needs, the administration recently recommended the Board of Education approve the following four items to provide financial relief to our families. These items were approved during the Aug. 30 Board meeting.

  1. A one-time, non-precedent-setting refund/waiver of the registration fee for the 2021-22 school year.

  2. A one-time, non-precedent-setting refund/waiver of the textbook/instructional materials rental fee for the 2021-22 school year.

  3. A one-time, non-precedent-setting refund/waiver of the student parking fee. Our hope is this initiative also will incentivize students to drive to school (rather than use the bus, to reduce the number of pupils on each bus), to help with our COVID-19 mitigation and prevention efforts.

  4. Allow District 88 students to attend all athletic events for free during the 2021-22 school year. Currently, seven athletic events charge a fee to attend, and that fee will be discontinued for 2021-22 for individuals who present a District 88 student ID. The goal of this initiative is to encourage pupils to attend more school events, to enhance their involvement and sense of belonging as we return to in-person learning. We also are in the process of discontinuing the entrance fee for District 88 students at non-athletic events, and details will be shared as soon as they’re available.

Junta de Educación del Distrito 88 aprueba cuatro iniciativas para proporcionar alivio financiero para las familias del Distrito 88

En el Distrito 88, estamos comprometidos a crear futuros positivos, junto con crear asociaciones colaborativas con nuestras familias y miembros de la comunidad quienes apoyan a nuestras escuelas. Hemos escuchado de varias de nuestras familias que están lidiando con dificultades debidas a la pandemia del coronavirus (COVID-19), lo cual incluye problemas financieros y que apreciarían cualquiera asistencia en esta área. En respuesta a estas necesidades, la administración recientemente recomendó que la Junta de Educación apruebe los siguientes cuatro puntos para proporcionar alivio financiero a nuestras familias. Estos puntos fueron aprobados durante la reunión de la Junta el 30 agosto.

  1. Un reembolso / exención único que no sienta precedente de la matrícula para el año escolar 2021-22.

  2. Un reembolso / exención único que no sienta precedente de la tarifa de la renta de libros de texto / materiales instruccionales para el año escolar 2021-22.

  3. Un reembolso / exención único que no sienta precedente de la tarifa de estacionamiento estudiantil. Nuestra esperanza con esta iniciativa es que también incentive a los estudiantes a manejarse ellos mismos a la escuela (en vez de ir en camión, para reducir el número de los estudiantes en cada camión) para ayudar con nuestros esfuerzos de mitigación y prevención de COVID-19.

  4. Permitir que los estudiantes del Distrito 88 asistan a todos los eventos deportivos gratis durante el año escolar 2021-22. Al momento, siete eventos deportivos cobran una tarifa para asistir. Esa tarifa se dará por terminado durante el año escolar 2021-22 para los individuos que presenten una tarjeta de ID estudiantil del Distrito 88. El fin de esta iniciativa es animar a los estudiantes a asistir a más eventos escolares para mejorar su participación y sentido de pertenencia mientras regresamos al aprendizaje en persona. También estamos en el proceso de dar por terminado la tarifa de entrada para los estudiantes del Distrito 88 en eventos no deportivos. Los detalles se compartirán en lo que se hagan disponible.
