On Jan. 22, District 88 Superintendent Dr. Scott Helton and I participated in the 13th Annual Shape of Addison Town Hall Meeting.

This meeting provides an opportunity for community members to dialogue with the board presidents from all six taxing bodies in Addison, and we look forward to speaking with residents during this annual event and partnering to accomplish our mission of working for the continuous improvement of student achievement. Board presidents and administrators from the Village of Addison, the Addison Public Library, the Addison Park District, the Addison Police Department, the Addison Fire Protection District, Addison School District 4 and District 88 share with residents an update with regard to what’s going on in the community. They then answer questions from community members.

We discussed the following topics from District 88:

  • Our updated Strategic Plan, which was approved last February
  • Our continued focus on instilling within students the value of giving back and helping others
  • Highlights of the 2019 Illinois Report Card
  • Our continued efforts to provide students with advanced coursework and career certification opportunities to help ensure they are college and career ready
  • An update regarding the delivery model for instructional technology that was implemented in 2018-19
  • Financial highlights, including our efforts to reduce costs for taxpayers through cooperative purchasing and sharing services with other local agencies
  • School safety and security updates
  • Welcoming new Board of Education members Amy Finnegan, Lisa Knauf and Daniel Olson
