District 88 shares important information regarding assessments for 2017-18 school year

At District 88, we are proud to offer students a comprehensive high school experience.

While academics are a top priority, we also focus on all aspects of providing a high-quality educational environment to help each student succeed inside the classroom and beyond. We regularly monitor individual student growth to ensure each child reaches his or her full potential. Part of that process includes administering state-required assessments, and we want to share with you the important information below regarding upcoming exams.

In April 2018, the Illinois State Board of Education will provide the College Board’s SAT exam, including a writing component, at no cost to all public high school juniors. That assessment provides a college-reportable score for admissions purposes. District 88 is committed to making sure students are prepared for the SAT and will provide Preliminary SAT assessments (called the PSAT) for freshmen and juniors on Oct. 11. (Sophomores will take that exam in April 2018.)

Oct. 11

  • Junior students will take the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) and will have the opportunity to enroll in the National Merit Scholarship program, an academic competition that provides public recognition and scholarships based on the student’s PSAT/NMSQT score
  • Freshmen students will take the PSAT 8/9

Parents/guardians should have received a letter with further details and the testing schedule for Oct. 11. For questions or more information, contact Addison Trail at 630-628-3300 or Willowbrook at 630-530-3400.

After each student completes a PSAT or SAT assessment, he or she will receive a score report that outlines the student’s strengths and areas for improvement through an online portal with the College Board (creator of the PSAT and SAT assessments) and an overview of the student’s college and career readiness. Also through the College Board account, each student will receive individualized tutorials from Khan Academy on how to improve in his or her areas of growth. Eighth-grade students

  • The class of 2022 will take the PSAT 8/9 on Oct. 14 as one component of placing students into courses at Addison Trail and Willowbrook (other factors also are considered)
  • Eighth-grade students at parochial schools who do not have a MAP Reading score also will take the Group Reading Assessment and Diagnostic Evaluation (GRADE) in late October

Parents/guardians should have received a letter with further details. For questions or more information, contact Addison Trail at 630-628-3300 or Willowbrook at 630-530-3400.
