District 88 Career and Technical Education departments continue to offer students dual-credit courses to earn college credit for free

District 88's Career and Technical Education departments are pleased to offer dual-credit courses for students.

Those classes are provided to students at no extra cost, and the credits they earn can be transferred to most colleges/universities in Illinois, as well as many out-of-state colleges/universities.

Willowbrook dual-credit courses:
* Courses are a semester long, unless otherwise noted.

  • Auto upkeep = AUTO 1040 (3 credits)
  • Photography 1 = PHOTO 1100 (3 credits)
  • Photography 2 = PHOTO 1102 (3 credits)
  • Keyboarding = OFTI 1100 (2 credits)
  • Accounting 2 = ACCY 1140 (4 credits)
    * This is a full-year course.
  • Fitness & nutrition = PHYS 1554 (1 credit)
    * This is a full-year course.
  • College & career technology/computer applications = OFTI 1210 (3 credits)

Addison Trail dual-credit courses:
* Courses are a semester long, unless otherwise noted.

  • Auto tech 2 = AUTO 1040 (3 credits)
  • Keyboarding/word processing = OFTI 1100 (2 credits)
    * This dual-credit course has been offered since fall 2007.
  • Food for life (formerly senior foods) = PHYS 1554 (1 credit)
  • College & career technology/computer applications = OFTI 1210 (3 credits)

This semester at Willowbrook, 88 percent of the students eligible to take dual-credit classes enrolled. Sophomores, juniors and seniors can take dual-credit courses. Those students are receiving a combined $36,000 in free college tuition based on College of DuPage’s (COD) current tuition rate of $146 a credit hour. And based on University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s current rate of $394 a credit hour, those students are getting $96,530 in tuition. Those numbers are similar at Addison Trail.

Students can enroll in dual-credit courses for next spring by contacting their counselor. District 88 staff members who teach dual-credit courses must follow hiring guidelines set by COD and are required to apply and be approved as an instructor. The course curriculum and syllabus also must be submitted to and approved by COD.
