District 88 celebrates Teen Read Week with a READATHON

According to http://teenreadweek.ning.com, Teen Read Week will take place from Oct. 13 to 19, and District 88 is excited to celebrate!

Teen Read Week is a national adolescent literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). It began in 1998 and takes place annually during the third week of October. Its purpose is to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users.

Teen Read Week's sub-theme for this year is Seek the Unknown @ your library, which encourages teens to explore and learn about the unknown through mystery, adventure, sci-fi and fantasy books.

Addison Trail and Willowbrook will celebrate reading throughout the week, culminating in the district’s first READATHON on Oct. 21 at both schools. The READATHON encourages students and staff members to form teams to compete. Each team will have a chair to decorate, and the goal is to keep that chair occupied with a team reader throughout the day. Team members will be allowed to read during free periods only, and prizes will be awarded for Best Decorated Chair and Most Minutes Read. There will be a trophy for the school that reads the most minutes throughout the READATHON.

To sign up, or for more information, stop by the Addison Trail Media Center or the Willowbrook Media Center.
