Get to know the DuPage County ACT-SO

ACT-SO (Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics) is a program that recruits, stimulates and encourages high academic and cultural achievement among students of African descent in preparation for successful college and career performance.

The mission of the DuPage County ACT-SO is to nurture excellence and provide positive reinforcement to African American high school students. ACT-SO partners with the community to raise cultural awareness, showcase talents, academic achievements and entrepreneurial skills, as well as develop leaders and provide life enrichment opportunities without regard to educational or economic status.

Students and families are invited to attend the orientation sessions listed below to learn more about the program.

Eligible ACT-SO candidates must:

• Be a high school student of African descent
  
  
• Be an amateur (having not received wages for professional services) in the category of the ACT-SO competition
  
  
• Attend one orientation session with a parent/guardian
  
  
• Complete the required pre-work (category dependent)

Orientation sessions:

• 10 a.m. on Sept. 9 (virtual)
  
  
• 7 p.m. on Sept. 13 (virtual)
  
  
• 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 (in-person kickoff, final orientation and first general session) at Lewis University at Oak Brook, 1111 W. 22nd St., Suite 700, in Oak Brook
