Since voter approval in April 2007,
significant time has been spent on architectural design and
engineering of the new “footprint” for Addison Trail and
Willowbrook. These decisions and expenses were deferred until
after the referendum when District 88 received the support of
the communities.
The most current designs, previewed at the
February 25 Board Educational Focus meeting, show a “schematic
snapshot” and the magnitude of work involved at both
Addison Trail and
Willowbrook. Although the cover page lists both
schools to represent the district project, each school also has
their specific plan posted on the building homepage.
In the coming weeks, the Board of Education and administration
will continue finalizing decisions that include all of the
identified priorities and remain within the budget of $115.3
million pledged to taxpayers.
Important dates and milestones:
Ø Early
bid packages will be released in April for construction to begin
in June.
Ø
An official
groundbreaking will occur later this spring; summer work
includes:
ü
In order for
Willowbrook to reclaim the north wing, the District Office will
be permanently
relocated to the existing
Addison Public Library
ü
Mass excavation
of ATHS for classroom addition and south parking lot
ü
Site utility
work and relocation
ü
Selective
demolition of corridor ceilings
ü
Asbestos abatement
Ø
Summer school will be
hosted offsite at the feeder school districts and DeVry.
Ø
The high
schools will have wireless capabilities by Fall 2008.
Ø
The project is still
on schedule to be completed by Fall 2010.
