As you may know, students from schools in our area have been diagnosed with MRSA, a type of staph infection that is resistant to antibiotics such as methacillin, oxacillin, penicillin, and omaxicillin. At this time, we have not had any reported cases at Willowbrook High School.
We will continue to follow a regimen of daily cleaning to maintain a sanitary environment. Below are the precautionary measures that we have employed to prevent MRSA infections.
· Use of special disinfectants to clean all lockers and high touch areas such as doorknobs, light switches, drinking fountains, faucet handles, and surfaces in and around toilets.
· Special attention to disinfecting all athletic facilities and equipment.
· We are investigating the installation of sanitary wipe dispensers in our fitness center and in our student cafeteria to help maintain the cleanliness of our frequently used areas immediately following usage.
The DuPage County Health Department also provides information regarding the MRSA situation in our County. Willowbrook High School will continue to work closely with our school nurse and the DuPage County Health Department and will advise you further if there are any developments with regard to this matter.
