District 88 hosts ‘Author in the House’ event

On May 6, District 88 was excited to bring back the “Author in the House” program at Addison Trail and Willowbrook for the first time since 2019 (because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic).

During that event, author and illustrator Tyler Feder met with Addison Trail and Willowbrook students and staff and presented about her published works. She also answered questions about her experiences and career path and hosted an illustrating/writing workshop, where students were able to learn from and practice their sketching skills with Feder.

According to https://www.tylerfeder.com, “Feder is an artist whose work explores big feelings, feminism and pop culture. Her debut solo work, ‘Dancing at the Pity Party’ (Dial), a graphic memoir about the premature death of her super cool mom, won the Sydney Taylor gold medal for young adult literature. Feder graduated from Northwestern University in 2011 with her bachelor’s degree in radio/TV/film and a certificate in Creative Writing for the Media. She completed the Writing Program at the Second City Training Center in 2013.”
