Mission:
To support the educational vision set forth by the Board of Education
Purpose/
Role/Rationale: This committee is an integral part of the
curricular review process for District 88. This committee reviews,
evaluates, and proposes curriculum, programs (i.e. SLC’s, math blocks,
academies), curricular policy, and instructional materials. Staff,
parents, students, community members, and school district members from
our feeder districts participate on this advisory committee. The
committee provides feedback and recommendations to the next level of
curriculum review. District 88 has had several different committees in
place, which have reviewed and discussed curricular issues. This
committee attempts to consolidate those committees into one group. The
committees that this group would encapsulate are: District 88
Information Literacy Committee, District 88 Graduation Requirements and
Implementation Committee, and the Building Technology Committees.
District 88 Curricular Review Model
Membership:
Teachers term is rotational. Representatives
are selected by the principal and serve a one or two-year term - one
representative per department, per school. The Curriculum Office and
building administrators select parents, students, and community members
to serve on a yearly basis and to attend meetings when appropriate.
Student representatives should represent the sophomore, junior and
senior levels. Feeder districts determine who will be the
representatives, and can send specialists when the topics have a
particular content focus.
Expectations/Responsibilities:
A member on the District 88 Curriculum Council will have
the following responsibilities:
committed to the
purpose and vision of learning that DuPage District 88 has set forth
in “The Vision for the 21st Century” document (see
attached);
study contemporary
effective program models or systems that impact student achievement;
be willing to
analyze issues, make recommendations, and support decisions;
attend scheduled
meetings;
work on and
possibly lead subcommittees as needed;
communicate council
proceedings to the departments/buildings;
use data or
research based evidence to make decisions;
answer
communications in a timely manner.
