"Students are natives to
cyberspace, where the rest of us are immigrants." Information Literacy at Addison Trail has been defined as “the ability to understand, locate, evaluate and use information.” The Addison Trail High School STUDY model promotes Information Literacy and Fluency. It is a dynamic process that is the framework for thinking and learning with information. With the recent proliferation of information, it is more important than ever for students to be fluent in this process for critical thinking and problem solving with text. Frequent opportunities help students move on the continuum from basic literacy to fluency. Fluency is defined as students owning the strategies and thinking independently with information to solve given problems. In order for fluency to be achieved, direct instruction and practice is necessary. This system is tailored to meet the expectations of the AT Academic Departments. The links and documents are provided to assist educators to facilitate the implementation of the Information Literacy process. Needless to say, many educators may have best practices for these areas already in place. There are many options under each process step and educators are encouraged to select and to adapt to meet the needs of the given project and specific students. Many of the forms have been placed on the Word template located on the computers at Addison Trail High School, so that they can conveniently be adapted for classroom use. Input and feedback from faculty is welcome.
