The Information Literacy Puzzle
ISBE/AASL/College Readiness Standards

Information Literacy in DuPage High School District #88 is defined as “the ability to safely locate, understand, evaluate sources and use information to express personal ideas and concepts.”  To support this process, students need to develop skills for thinking critically and learning effectively with information.

Today, information abounds and often provides conflicting messages, so new skills are needed for students to think critically with all that they read and research. The needed skills help students go from basic information literacy to information fluency.

Standards for the 21st-Century Learner developed by (AASL) and the  (NETS-S) are used to organize an introduction to research on the Internet and are the basis for the skills covered.

Consider the future of reading and the use of technologies of students.  What skills will they need?  Will we blame Google or will we actively engage students in developing these thinking skills!  This system is tailored to meet the expectations of the District #88 Academic Departments, which includes student demonstration of Information Literacy skills over the years as they are attending the district.

The links and documents  are provided  to assist educators to facilitate the implementation of the Information Literacy process.  Many of the forms have been placed on the Word template located on the on the template internal network so that they can conveniently be adapted for classroom use.  Input and feedback from staff is always welcome.
