Addison Trail might be in a virtual environment because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, but that isn’t stopping the school’s Theatre Department from hosting its annual fall play. Be sure to watch “Bad Auditions … On Camera” at 7 p.m. on Oct. 23 and 24! The shows will be streamed online at no cost, and information to access the performances will be posted on this webpage (above and below).

When Remote Learning was first implemented this past March, Addison Trail Theatre Director Anna McSweeney met with students on the Theatre Board to start planning the 2020-21 season. The group members were thrilled when they discovered the comedy “Bad Auditions … On Camera” by Ian McWethy and Carrie McWethy (McCrossen), and they knew it would be the perfect option for this year’s fall play.

According to www.playscripts.com, “Bad Auditions … On Camera” tells the story of “a casting director (who) has one day to find an actor to fill the role of a lawyer in a crime procedural. But what seems like a simple task proves impossible when the pool of actors includes stage thespians who can’t tone it down for the screen, performers completely unable to keep themselves in frame, and an actor who seems to believe this is a toothpaste commercial.”

McSweeney said what makes this production unique is the amount of interaction, as the audience chooses the ending and which actor lands the role of the lawyer.

“It has definitely been challenging, but we’re excited to try something different,” said Enzo Ciaccia, Addison Trail junior (who plays Herman). “We of course would prefer to be in person, but rehearsals are going well and are allowing us to still experience the various aspects of theatre.”
