Illinois State Board of Education seeks applicants for Student Advisory Council, hosts Every Student Succeeds Act listening tour

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) discusses the board’s Student Advisory Council and statewide listening tour to gather feedback on its new support and accountability system.

Student Advisory Council: The ISBE invites Illinois public high school students who will be in grades 10, 11 or 12 during the 2019-20 school year to apply to join ISBE’s Student Advisory Council. Members of the council will engage in discussions about how the public education system can better meet students’ needs. The deadline to apply is May 31. Statewide listening tour: The ISBE is hosting a statewide listening tour in May to gather feedback on its new support and accountability system. Stakeholder feedback gathered throughout the tour will inform an amendment to the Illinois Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) Plan and will improve Illinois’ approach to measuring and supporting school performance. The ISBE will make tour stops in Wheaton, Chicago, Springfield, Carbondale and Moline. Stakeholders also may submit feedback by emailing essa@isbe.net.
