Earlier this school year on Nov. 20, 2018, Willowbrook senior Robert Fagan III earned Eagle Scout status, the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts of America.

Those who receive that rank earn a total of 21 merit badges; demonstrate Scout Oath and Scout Law in their daily life; and plan, develop and give leadership to others in a service project. Read more about the Eagle Scout process at https://tinyurl.com/EagleScoutInfo.

Fagan is with Troop 140, and he joined Cub Scouts when he was in first grade. He said he enjoyed being with his friends and learning new things in Cub Scouts, and he liked camping and doing outdoor activities through Boy Scouts, which he joined in fifth grade.

For his Eagle Scout project, Fagan partnered with Project AWARE (which works with scuba divers across the globe to protect underwater environments) to clean up Grays Lake in Illinois. Fagan said the project took about six months and more than 200 service hours to complete and involved coordinating 43 scuba divers and land volunteers to clean plastic, metal and glass debris from the bottom of the lake.

Fagan said he hopes to stay involved with Boy Scouts. He serves as a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster and is part of a Venturing Crew. He plans to attend Bradley University to study electrical engineering.
