District 88 hosts annual ‘Author in the House’ event

On Feb. 22, District 88 hosted its annual “Author in the House” at Addison Trail and Willowbrook.

During that event, Gale Gand – nationally acclaimed pastry chef, restaurateur, cookbook author, television personality, teacher, entrepreneur and mother – met with Addison Trail and Willowbrook students and staff and provided an interactive presentation about her experiences and career path. She discussed how the meals we share with others are an influential and important part of our life, as food creates relationships that impact who we become. Gand also encouraged students to pursue their dreams and explore the various options available to them with an open mind.

Gand then answered questions from the students and had them come up to cook with her as she made her chocolate mousse and lavender shortbread. Through her lighthearted and humorous repertoire, Gand related to students and was able to share with them her passion for the culinary arts. For more information about Gand, go to www.galegand.com.

The Library Media Center and culinary arts faculty at Addison Trail and Willowbrook collaborated to present this year's “Author in the House” event. At Addison Trail, the Career and Technical Education (CTE) staff made several of Gand’s recipes for faculty to enjoy. At Willowbrook, The Brook Catering Co. (which is comprised of Willowbrook students who are enrolled in culinary courses at the school) provided lunch to welcome Gand.
