District 88 films final ‘State of District 88’ video segment of 2017-18 school year

At District 88, maintaining open, honest and transparent communication with stakeholders is a top priority.

Ensuring stakeholders are informed and aware of the happenings at District 88 is a key aspect of helping to accomplish the district’s mission of working for the continuous improvement of student achievement. As part of that focus, District 88 partners with Addison Community Television (ACTV) to film “The State of District 88.” The show takes place about every other month and highlights student successes, as well as important information about the district.

On June 19, District 88 filmed the final segment of “The State of District 88” for the 2017-18 school year, which features the student highlights listed below. Students were joined by District 88 Superintendent Dr. Scott Helton, Willowbrook Principal Dr. Daniel Krause and Addison Trail Principal Michael Bolden.

  • Addison Trail’s Luis Silva and Willowbrook’s Taha Akhtar and Tomas Pelesinas share their experiences of qualifying for and competing in the Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference, which took place this past May in Texas. (pictured above)

  • Willowbrook’s Baghat Hassan and Millie Zachariah share their experiences of qualifying for and competing in the International Career Development Conference, which took place this past April in Georgia. Addison Trail Principal Michael Bolden discusses the Addison Trail students who competed at that event as well. (pictured above)

  • Addison Trail’s Alejandro Salazar and Willowbrook’s Genevieve Corkery share their experiences of being named as All-State Musicians by the Illinois Music Education Association (ILMEA) earlier this year and performing during the Illinois Music Education Conference, which took place this past January in Peoria. Corkery also competed in the Humorous Interpretation speech event at the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Tournament and finished in 5th place. That event took place this past February in Peoria. (pictured above)

  • Willowbrook’s Genevieve Corkery, John DeAngelo and Baghat Hassan discuss what it was like to have Willowbrook’s Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Contest Play, “Elizabeth Rex,” earn 5th place at the IHSA Drama & Group Interpretation State Competition, which took place this past March in Peoria.   • Addison Trail’s Connor White discusses what it was like to be selected for and participate in the 2018 Illinois High School Theatre Festival (IHSTF) All-State production of “Big Fish” earlier this year, along with several other Addison Trail students and staff members. That show also was chosen to perform during the International Thespian Festival (ITF), which took place from June 25 to 30 at University of Nebraska–Lincoln. White also was nominated for an Illinois High School Musical Theatre Award, presented by Broadway In Chicago. (pictured above)

  • Addison Trail’s Mateusz Wojdak shares his experiences of competing in the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Boys Gymnastics State Meet, which took place this past May at Hoffman Estates High School. Wojdak competed on floor (where he finished in 6th place) and vault. Willowbrook’s Nicholas Cookingham talks about earning 2nd Team All-State recognition from ILL Prep Volleyball. (pictured above)

  • Willowbrook’s Jonathan Leal and Maria Gonzalez share their experiences of participating in the Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games, which took place from June 15 to 17 in Bloomington and Normal. Willowbrook Special Olympics Coach Tara Murphy also speaks about being named as Head Coach for the Illinois Athletics Team that will compete in a variety of traditional track and field events during the Special Olympics USA Games, which will take place in July in Seattle.
