Willowbrook senior Jack Wentworth recently earned Eagle Scout status, the highest rank attainable in Boy Scouts of America.

Those who receive that rank earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate Scout Spirit through the Boy Scout Oath and Law, service and leadership (which includes organizing, planning and completing an extensive service project in the community).

Wentworth is with Troop 54, and he joined Cub Scouts in 2006.

“I wanted to earn merit badges and learn leadership skills,” Wentworth said of why he began participating in the organization.

For his Eagle Scout project, Wentworth built and installed picnic benches in the courtyard at Willowbrook. He said the project took about 65 hours to complete and involved finding and buying the kits; sanding down, staining and clear-coating the benches; and assembling the benches. Wentworth worked with Willowbrook senior Carl Tankersley and sophomore Joshua Tankersley, who are members of Troop 242 (Carl earned Eagle Scout status this past November).

Wentworth said he hopes to stay involved with Boy Scouts as an adult leader. He plans to serve a two-year church mission and then enlist in the United States Marine Corps.
