On May 3, 25 Addison Trail students traveled to Marquette University as part of the school’s college visit opportunities. They visited the campus with Addison Trail Guidance Counselor Shane Cole, as well as social studies teachers Mario Fernandez and Jose Hernandez, who are part of Addison Trail’s Blazers Edge program. Blazers Edge is available by invitation to students who meet certain criteria such as being the first in their family to attend college. Through that program, participants hear guest speakers, attend college visits and receive assistance with college applications and requesting financial aid and more. The goal is to encourage those students to explore four-year post-secondary institutions.

The group was welcomed at Marquette by Addison Trail alumna Katie (Pope) Hennicke (class of 2006), who is the Director of Visit Programs, Undergraduate Admissions at the university. The students also participated in a tour of the campus, ate lunch at the university, visited the bookstore and received information about the admissions process and financial aid.
