Willowbrook hosts Senior Recognition Assembly

On May 4, Willowbrook celebrated the end of the 2017-18 school year with its annual Senior Recognition Assembly.

During the assembly, seniors were honored for their achievements in a variety of areas. Awards and recognitions included athletic accomplishments, scholarships, department awards for Outstanding Seniors, Human Relations Awards, Commended Students in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program, District 88’s Best, State Scholars, leadership and service recognitions and more. Willowbrook senior Brandon G. Smith received the Warrior Award, which honors someone within the Willowbrook community who has shown great strength and determination.

The 2017-18 staff retirees were highlighted as well. They are Joan Andrews, Tom Cantlin (who also is this year’s Willowbrook recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award), Robert Delaney, Patricia Engelmann, Marina Gozzetti, Roberta Keavy, Kathleen Kosior, Kathy LeMone, Peggy Wealton and Barbara Willson. The District 88 Foundation also presented mini-grants to staff members for the fifth year. That financial support will allow staff to develop a variety of instructional opportunities to benefit students. The foundation is proud to give $2,729 to Willowbrook staff members this year. The recipients are:

  • Courtney Vala, Mary Barney, Kevin Quinn and Josh Zwart: IPad Pro
  • Math Department: Graphing calculators
