A new Athletic Director will join the administrative team at Willowbrook starting on July 1, but it will be a familiar face to the school and community.

During its April 9 meeting, the District 88 Board of Education approved the administration’s recommendation to name Brandon Murphy as Willowbrook’s new Athletic Director. Murphy will succeed Bob Daly in that position, who will move into the role of Assistant Principal at the school.

Murphy joined Willowbrook in 2007 and has taught physical education, health and driver education. But Murphy’s connection to the school began long before he became an educator. He has been part of the Willowbrook community since the day he was born – his father, Bryan, has worked at Willowbrook since 1981; he wrestled for the Villa Park Young Warriors as a child; and he graduated from Willowbrook in 2001.

“Growing up, I was provided with many amazing opportunities at Willowbrook, and I want to make sure our students today have those same experiences to develop relationships, skills and life lessons,” Murphy said. “I’m incredibly passionate about Willowbrook and want to help ensure our student-athletes are well-rounded and competitive in all aspects of life – on the field, in the classroom and beyond. My goal is to make sure we provide something for all of our pupils, so each student can find his or her passion and be part of a team and feel accepted. We have a strong tradition of athletic success here at Willowbrook, and I look forward to continuing that legacy.”

Along with teaching, Murphy has served as a wrestling coach since 2007 and has been the Head Varsity Coach since 2014. He also has coached badminton since 2007 and has been the Head Varsity Coach since 2011. He has been a Student Council sponsor since 2008 as well. Murphy attended Eastern Illinois University, where he lettered in wrestling from 2001 to 2003. He graduated in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education, health and driver education.

“Murphy and his family have been part of the Willowbrook culture for many years, and his awesome work ethic and love for Willowbrook are evident in all he does,” said Dr. Daniel Krause, Willowbrook Principal. “I have no doubt he will work well with our team to maintain the tradition of excellence that has been established here at Willowbrook High School.”

Murphy lives in Woodridge with his wife, Kristy, and their three children, Shannon, Brandon Jr. and Peyton.

“Murphy’s commitment to the students of Willowbrook will help ensure we accomplish our mission of working for the continuous improvement of student achievement,” said Dr. Scott Helton, District 88 Superintendent.
