Willowbrook sophomore featured in article on Hamilton – The Official App

Pictured is Willowbrook sophomore Emily O’Brochta, who was recently featured in an article on Hamilton – The Official App for her performance this past October on stage at CIBC Theatre as part of the Hamilton Education Program. O’Brochta was one of the students selected to share their original pieces during the program, and she wrote a poem entitled “Freedom Rings,” written from the perspective of Phyllis Wheatley (an African-American slave and poet).

This past October, Willowbrook sophomore Emily O’Brochta took the stage at CIBC Theatre as part of the Hamilton Education Program. Through that event, she and nearly 150 other District 88 students (along with about 15 District 88 staff members) attended a performance of the musical “Hamilton.”

That program is a partnership between “Hamilton,” local donors (including The Rockefeller Foundation) and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. It combines Founding Era classroom resources developed by the institute, document-based student projects and a special student matinee of “Hamilton” for sophomore and junior students enrolled in American history classes.

O’Brochta was one of the students selected to perform an original piece on stage based on the Founding Era curriculum, and she was recently featured in an article on Hamilton – The Official App (http://hamiltonmusical.com/app) for her poem entitled “Freedom Rings.” O’Brochta wrote from the perspective of Phyllis Wheatley, an African-American slave and poet.
