District 88 hosts Robert Crown drug-abuse prevention program

On Dec. 13, Addison Trail hosted a free Robert Crown Center for Health Education program entitled “Raising Healthy Teens in a Digital Age: Drug Abuse Prevention.”

The focus of that event was to assist parents/guardians with getting the conversation started and helping their child develop skills to reduce the risk of drug use. The program described why kids are vulnerable decision-makers; identified what kids are seeing with regard to drug use, including current research, trends and barriers to healthy choices; helped participants develop skills on how to reduce the risk of drug use through healthy relationships and conversations and creating a conversation action plan; and provided drug-abuse prevention resources. Addison Trail provided resources to have the presentation available in Spanish, as well as English.

The program also was offered on Nov. 6 at Willowbrook.
