Addison Trail student-athletes represent Blazer Pride during fall sports season

It was a tremendous fall sports season at Addison Trail, and our student-athletes certainly continued the Blazer Pride that is Addison Trail Athletics!

Below is a recap with highlights.

BOYS CROSS-COUNTRY
Boys Cross-Country had a successful end of the season. At Conference, the team had two medalists, one freshman (Dylan Moran) and one sophomore (Jonathan Ramos), and varsity earned 6th place overall. For the second time in two years, the boys completed full squads at every level of the Conference meet.

GIRLS CROSS-COUNTRY
The team had two varsity medalists at the Leyden Invite – freshman Viviana Sanfilippo and senior Karina Martinez. Freshman Valerie Soto earned a ribbon at the Leyden Invite and was All-Conference at the sophomore level. Sanfilippo finished the season by earning All-Conference honors at the varsity level and qualified to the Sectional meet. Once again, all seniors on the team received All-Academic recognition.

BOYS GOLF
The varsity team earned 3rd place at the Conference meet. Senior Richard Troha and junior Blaise Morris were named to the All-Conference Team, and Morris qualified for Sectionals.

FOOTBALL
The varsity team finished the season 4-5 and 2-4 in conference. The team continued to compete weekly with impressive performances, and victories down the stretch highlighted the season. Nine seniors were named to the All-Academic Team: Michael Chiaramonte, Nick D’Ambrose, Jacob Grygo, Evangelos Pahopos, Andrew Parnell, Randall Petrbok, Michael Ruffolo, Adal Sanabria and Ryan Sheehan. Four players earned All-Conference honors: D’Ambrose, Petrbok, Nicholas DiBenardo and Jack Domek.

GIRLS GOLF
The team finished 9th in Conference. Senior Sara Gagliano qualified for Sectionals by shooting a 92 at Regionals.

BOYS SOCCER
The varsity team finished 3rd in Conference. Four members were named to the All-Conference Team: Junior Melvin Mora, junior Eduardo Huerta, junior Matthew Moran and senior Martin Juarez. Mora also was named All-Sectional and Daily Herald All-Area Honorable Mention. Six players received All-Academic honors. The team started the season by taking 3rd place out of eight teams in the Joe Novy Tournament. The team also competed in the PepsiCo Showdown, where the boys gained valuable experience from playing three teams that ranked in the top 20 in the state. The boys beat Mount Carmel, who was ranked in the top 15 in the state. With many of the players returning next season, the future looks bright for Blazer soccer.

AT/WB GIRLS SWIMMING
This year was the biggest team yet for AT/WB Girls Swimming. The team was split evenly between Addison Trial and Willowbrook and consisted of many talented freshmen. Conference and Sectional meets had 100 percent of the athletes swim best times.

GIRLS TENNIS
The girls won the Addison Trail Quad for the first time in 12 years, and the team had three All-Conference players. Senior Agne Siupienius took 3rd place in 2nd singles at Conference to earn All-Conference honors. The Doubles Team of junior Gabriella Bonilla and sophomore Stephanie Avila also took 3rd place in 4th doubles to be named to the All-Conference Team.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
The team finished the season with an overall record of 16-21. In Conference, the team finished in 3rd place, with an overall record of 4-2. The girls also advanced to the championship match at the Willowbrook Tournament. Individual accolades include senior Nicci Scorza being named to the All-Tournament Team at the Metea Valley Tournament and sophomore Jessica D’Ambrose and junior Nina Muell being recognized as All-Conference selections. Muell also was recognized as a Daily Herald All-Area Honorable Mention selection. The varsity team will return a majority of its starters next year and will welcome a strong core of players from the sophomore team, which finished the season with a record of 25-5.
