Willowbrook collects cases of water, monetary donations to aid Puerto Rico and Mexico City

From Oct. 13 to 20, Willowbrook students who are members of the school’s Youth Equity Stewardship Series (YESS!) and Hispanic Leadership Club hosted a water drive.

That event collected 51 cases of water from students and staff, which will be sent to Puerto Rico and Mexico City to assist those affected by the recent natural disasters in those areas. Faith, Life and Hope Mission in West Chicago will distribute the items. Students and staff also donated more than $1,250 to help those in need through GlobalGiving. According to www.globalgiving.org, “GlobalGiving is the largest global crowdfunding community connecting nonprofits, donors and companies in nearly every country. (It) help(s) nonprofits from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe (and hundreds of places in between) access the tools, training and support they need to be more effective and make our world a better place.”

The effort was proposed and driven by Willowbrook senior Sebastian Berlin (a member of YESS!), who reached out to junior Bianca Galicia to coordinate with the Hispanic Leadership Club.
