Addison Trail alumna follows her dream to become an actress

For as long as Addison Trail alumna Celesta DeAstis (class of 2012) can remember, performing arts has been a way of life.

As a child, DeAstis visited the theater often with her parents, which instilled in her a love and passion for acting. She was surrounded by the arts growing up, and entertaining/performing became a part of her very being.

DeAstis began acting when she was 7 years old and hasn’t slowed down since. She has appeared in music videos, commercials, TV shows, films and more. Her most recent role aired on Oct. 18, when she guest starred as Mitzi on “The Goldbergs,” a show that takes place in the 1980s and follows the lives of the members of the Goldberg family. Mitzi is scheduled to be a recurring character throughout the season.

“(Daughter) Erica Goldberg meets Mitzi at college, and she's the girl you want to hate – head of her sorority and so over-the-top popular it’s annoying,” DeAstis said. “But it’s so fun to play! I also recently played a sorority girl on the TV show '2 Broke Girls.' Even though I've barely stepped foot in a sorority house in real life, I really enjoy portraying that cliché in comedy.”

DeAstis is best known for her roles in “Banana Leaves,” “A.N.T. Farm” and “Towed.” She also is working on several upcoming projects, including a short film called “FAITH” about five teenagers and a counselor in rehab.

During her time at Addison Trail, DeAstis starred in several productions, including portraying lead characters in “Once Upon a Mattress” and “Willy Wonka.” She said being on stage and participating in theatre are some of her best high school memories.

“Addison Trail Theatre changed my entire perspective on high school,” DeAstis said. “My only regret is not joining until my junior year. Because of my job, I would have to leave a lot for an audition or work. The school allowed me to leave and come back often, and I was so thankful. The staff really supported me and helped me follow my dream to pursue a career as an actress.”
