On Oct. 11, Willowbrook sophomore students had the opportunity to participate in a Career Exploration Program.

The event was hosted by the Willowbrook Guidance Department, in collaboration with Junior Achievement of Chicago. The program focused on the 16 Career Clusters, and students were able to select which professions they wanted to learn more about. Nearly 20 presenters shared information about their background, education and daily work life to give insight into their respective field. Activities for the day included:

  • Keynote speaker Amy Segami, who discussed the importance of identifying a desired career path. According to www.amysegami.com, “Segami is a mechanical engineer who paints on water. She is the Managing Principal of Segami Studios and Consulting, an international firm focused on helping leaders with a new perspective. As a motivational speaker, innovation consultant and professional facilitator, Segami inspires leaders turning talent into teams. Segami also is a TEDx speaker, founder and executive producer of TEDxIIT, the longest running independently organized TED event in Chicago.”

  • Guidance counselors introduced the career exploration process through completion of the Career Interest Inventory and the Career Cluster Finder in Naviance. Students also were introduced to job-search resources such as the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Occupational Outlook Handbook.

  • Students were able to attend three Career Cluster Workshop presentations of their choice.
