Addison Trail Guidance Department hosts two events to help prepare students for college

The Addison Trail Guidance Department is committed to helping prepare students for success in their post-secondary-education endeavors. As part of that focus, the department recently hosted two events to help students be college and career ready.

  • On Aug. 26, 33 Addison Trail students traveled to University of Illinois at Chicago with counselors Dana Marine and Shane Cole as part of the school’s college visit opportunities. Students were given a tour of the campus, ate lunch at the university and received information about the admissions process. (pictured above)

  • On Sept. 6, Addison Trail alumnus Edgar Palomino (class of 2013) spoke with students about his experiences adjusting to college life, attending University of Pennsylvania and majoring in political science. Palomino discussed what the university offers in terms of academic programs and social activities, as well as the importance of getting involved. He also spoke about the successes and difficulties he had during the college admissions process.

Palomino met with junior and senior students who are part of Addison Trail’s Blazers Edge program, which is available by invitation to students who meet certain criteria such as being the first in their family to attend college. Through that program, participants hear guest speakers, attend college visits, receive assistance with college applications/requesting financial aid and more. The goal is to encourage those students to explore four-year post-secondary institutions. (pictured above)
