Fundraiser in memory of former Addison Trail principal, teacher and coach to benefit Addison Trail students

On Sept. 28, stop by Portillo’s on Lake Street in Addison for a tasty treat – and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Addison Trail students.

From 5 to 8 p.m., 20 percent of your order will go to the Donald J. Layne Foundation, which offers an annual, one-time college tuition credit to one male and one female high school senior graduating from Addison Trail, who is enrolled in an accredited two- or four-year university and meets the established qualification criteria. To participate in this fundraiser, present the flier at https://www.dupage88.net/site/public/files/?item=3581.

Layne served as a teacher in District 88 from 1957 to 1975; was an Assistant Principal from 1976 to 1983; served as Principal of Addison Trail from 1983 to 1993; and was a member of the District 88 Board of Education from 1995 to 2007. He passed away on Aug. 11, 2013.

According to the foundation’s website, http://donaldjlaynefoundation.org, “Layne was a founding member of the staff at Addison Trail, dating to when the school first opened its doors in 1966. During his 36 years at Addison Trail, (Layne) dedicated his life to kids, serving in the roles of teacher, coach and administrator – having a particular fondness for the student-athlete. As a longtime Addison resident, (Layne) also gave back to the place in which he lived, believing community service was a key component of a well-rounded individual. The Layne Education Foundation scholarship was designed to honor (his) legacy by supporting the post-secondary education goals of community-involved, college-bound student-athletes.”
