Addison Trail senior receives Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies

Addison Trail senior Dean Barkoulies was recently named as a recipient of a Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies.

According to the Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies website (http://tinyurl.com/ptoqyxb), applicants must have a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character. Finalists are selected and go through a rigorous interview process. The scholarship is awarded from the Evans Scholars Foundation, a charitable trust that provides full, four-year tuition and housing college scholarships to deserving caddies.

Barkoulies has been a caddie at Medinah Country Club in Medinah for about five years. He said he plays golf recreationally and plans to continue with the sport in the future.

“What I enjoy most about being a caddie is it isn’t a normal job,” Barkoulies said. “You get to be outdoors on the golf course, and every day is different because you’re working with someone new.”

Barkoulies said he was thrilled when he found out he had received the scholarship to live in the Evans Scholarship House at Miami University in Ohio, where he plans to major in accounting.

“I was shocked and a bit surprised,” Barkoulies said. “It’s definitely an honor to have this financial assistance and networking opportunity.”

Barkoulies added he couldn’t have achieved this level of success without the help of his family, friends and staff at Addison Trail.

“All the staff members here at Addison Trail have really been there for me and have helped me reach my goals,” Barkoulies said. “I appreciate all their support.”
