Addison Trail Science Olympiad Team qualifies for State Tournament

The Addison Trail Science Olympiad Team has qualified to compete in the State Tournament, which will take place on April 29 at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

The team earned a bid to State after earning 13 medals in 23 events and finishing in 5th place at the College of DuPage Regional on March 11.

The students who will compete at State are senior Klea Gjonaj, senior Abdul Kittaneh, senior Jonathan Loi, sophomore Christopher Voinea, junior Robessa Llanto, senior Eric Moy, senior Szymon Popowski, senior Max Lopez, junior David Zielinski, junior Michelle Ramirez, sophomore Benny Zhao, senior Tracy Pham, junior Theodora Koulouvaris and junior Miguel Gutierrez.

Junior varsity team members also will compete in trial events at the State Tournament. They are senior Anton Nguyen, senior Ambar Rivera, freshman Pratibha Bhalla, freshman Cindy Pham, junior David Zielinski, junior Nick Czorniak, senior Lucero Bustamante and freshman Tiffany Truong.

According to www.illinoisolympiad.org, Illinois Science Olympiad (ISO) is a non-profit organization devoted to improving the quality of science education, increasing student interest in science and providing recognition for outstanding achievement in science education by students and teachers. ISO accomplishes its goals through classroom activities, research, training workshops and the encouragement of intramural, district, regional, state and national tournaments.
