On Jan. 27, District 88 hosted a High School Superintendents Forum. That group meets three times a year for Illinois high school superintendents to connect on key issues and themes affecting education.

The topic on Jan. 27 was “Best Practices for Dual-Credit Programs,” and the group focused on four points of discussion:

Examples of dual-credit partnerships that have been effective for students
Features of dual-credit programs that are successful
Successful readiness trends and practices in preparing students for credit-bearing classes
Successful practices in best preparing students for credit-bearing math courses

Guest panelists were Michael Carr, Ph.D., Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs at Oakton Community College; Earl Dowling, Vice President of Student Affairs at College of DuPage; Maria Moten, Assistant Provost/Dean of Enrollment Services at Harper College; and Elizabeth Roeger Ludwig, Ed.D., Dean of College Transitions & Developmental Education at Elgin Community College.

At District 88, students are able to participate in about 20 dual-credit courses in partnership with College of DuPage (primarily Career and Technical Education (CTE) classes), which provide them with an opportunity to earn college credit while still in high school. A limited number of students also enroll to take courses at Technology Center of DuPage. The district looks forward to working with other colleges and universities to expand those offerings.
