District 88 celebrates Teen Read Week

From Oct. 11 to 14, Addison Trail and Willowbrook celebrated Teen Read Week.

Activities included students flying paper airplanes through a Hula–Hoop to pay off library overdue fines or to win treats, watching movies that are based on books after school, enjoying a “read-in” event during resource period and dressing as a favorite literary character.

Event winners received a gift card to Portillo’s or Sonic. The winners are:

Teen Read Week is a national adolescent literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association. It began in 1998 and takes place annually in October. Its purpose is to encourage teens to be regular readers and library users. This year’s event featured a multi-lingual "Read for the fun of it!" theme.
