Chinese delegation visits District 88

On Aug. 12, District 88 welcomed visitors from Zhejiang Institute of Administration in Zhejiang Province, China.

Along with one staff member, the delegation is comprised of 23 faculty members from diverse social-scientific research fields. They came to District 88 to learn about public administration in the U.S. and to study the U.S. legal system. Their goal was to obtain a better understanding of state legislation and executive administration.

During their visit, the delegation members toured Addison Trail and viewed a presentation about District 88 and its two high schools (Addison Trail and Willowbrook). The group then had an opportunity to ask questions of District 88 Superintendent Dr. Scott Helton, Addison Trail Principal Michael Bolden and Willowbrook Principal Dan Krause. Also in attendance were Village of Addison Mayor Rich Veenstra, District 88 Board of Education Vice President Jay Irvin, District 88 Board of Education Member Timothy Gillen and Addison School District 4 Superintendent John Langton.

The stop at Addison Trail was part of the group’s two-week, civic-minded visit to the Chicago area. Iris Han – a project manager with the 21st Century Institute, which arranged the tour – said the Oak Brook-based institute was founded in the 1990s with the goal of designing, developing and delivering exchange programs between China and the U.S. in areas such as economics, public administration, education and other government roles.
