Willowbrook hosts Senior Recognition Assembly

On May 19, Willowbrook celebrated the end of the 2015-16 school year with its annual Senior Recognition Assembly.

During the assembly, seniors were honored for their achievements in a variety of areas. Awards and recognitions included athletic accomplishments, scholarships, department awards for Outstanding Seniors, Human Relations Awards, National Merit Scholars, National Honor Society, District 88’s Best, Illinois State Scholars, President's Award for Educational Achievement, leadership and service recognitions and more. Senior Hannah Marshall, who was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma when she was 12 years old, received the Warrior Award. The 2015-16 staff retirees were highlighted as well. They are Laura Butler, Rita DeFilippis, Sheila Elliott, Bill Eufrasio, Mahjoub Hilali, Janis Piedra, Micki Silvestri and Debra Wilson. To read more about the retirees, go to https://www.dupage88.net/site/public/files/?item=2880.

The District 88 Foundation also presented mini-grants to staff members for the third year. That financial support is being implemented for staff to develop instructional opportunities such as culinary programs, enhanced technology for the automotive department, lunch groups to support students and more.

The foundation is proud to give $2,400 to Willowbrook this year. The recipients are:

  • Amy Nowak, The Art of Plating: Be Our Guest
  • Erik Engel, MENTORS Lunch Groups Food Lure
  • Joshua Zwart, Printing a Prosthetic Hand Through E-Nable
  • Sara Courington, Ladies Lunch Groups Food/Activities
