District 88 hosts Senate Bill 100 presentation

On April 29, the Black Educator Network of Suburban Chicago hosted a presentation about Senate Bill 100, which focuses on reforming student discipline in Illinois to help ensure equality for all students. The event took place at Willowbrook for school counselors, deans and administrators from schools in the suburban Chicago area, including Willowbrook and Addison Trail. During that meeting, about 60 participants heard from featured speaker State Sen. Kimberly Lightford, who sponsored the bill.

Lightford explained the reasoning and research behind the bill, the steps school districts will need to take to be in compliance with the bill by fall 2016, and she answered questions from participants. State Sen. Tom Cullerton also attended the event.
