Willowbrook senior receives Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies

Willowbrook senior Maximillan Sarovich was recently named as a recipient of a Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies.

According to the Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies website (http://tinyurl.com/ptoqyxb), applicants must have a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need and outstanding character. Finalists are selected and go through a rigorous interview process. The scholarship is awarded from the Evans Scholars Foundation, a charitable trust that provides full, four-year tuition and housing college scholarships to deserving caddies.

Sarovich has been a caddie at Butterfield Country Club in Oak Brook for about six years. He also is an avid golfer and was a member of the Willowbrook Boys Golf Team all four years of his high school career (two of those years were on varsity). In the future, Sarovich said he plans to stay active in the sport on a recreational level.

“I enjoy being out on the golf course in nature,” Sarovich said. “I also enjoy the mental challenge of the game and the fact that it gets your heartrate going – I love the thrill. Golf has taught me many lessons, including patience and to never give up.”

Sarovich said he was overcome with emotion when he learned he had received the scholarship to live in the Evans Scholarship House at University of Colorado Boulder, where he plans to major in accounting.

“I was in shock and then started jumping up and down,” he said. “Seeing that acceptance letter meant all my hard work and dedication paid off.”

Sarovich said he’s humbled by this opportunity. He knows he couldn’t have achieved this level of success without the support of his family, friends and staff at Willowbrook. He also would like to thank Chick Evans for founding this scholarship.

“Willowbrook has taught me no matter the level of diversity at your school, everyone can always come together as one family,” Sarovich said.
