District 88 Breast Cancer Awareness Month recap

Throughout the month of October, Addison Trail and Willowbrook hosted a variety of events to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Below is a recap of those happenings.

Addison Trail
Through the efforts below, Addison Trail has raised about $5,000, and more donations continue to be made. That money will benefit the Breast Cancer Quality of Life Surveillance Program at the Nancy W. Knowles Cancer Center at Elmhurst Hospital.

• Participated in the Go Pink or Go Home volleyball game on Sept. 22 at Addison Trail (versus Willowbrook)
• Decorated the Commons area in pink on Sept. 30 to officially begin Breast Cancer Awareness Month; decorations were displayed throughout October
• Hosted the fourth annual Go Pink or Go Home Walk on Oct. 22; sold “in honor of/in memory of” pink ribbons and displayed them during the walk and in the Commons area at the school
• More than 100 dancers (from Cheerleading, Orchesis and Poms) choreographed and performed a halftime routine with pink poms during the Go Pink or Go Home football game on Oct. 23; the Marching Band wore pink plumes during that game as well, which were provided through the generous financial support of 134 sponsors
• Sold “pink” T-shirts and bling sweatshirts; pink ribbon cookies; pink shaker poms; pink ribbons; tickets to get a pink hair strand; and other “pink” items
• Hosted a Crazy Pink Day
• Students and staff wore pink every Friday during October

Willowbrook
Through the efforts below, Willowbrook raised about $700. That money will benefit breast cancer research.

• Participated in the Go Pink or Go Home volleyball game on Sept. 22 at Addison Trail
• Sold “pink” T-shirts and other “pink” items
• Decorated the halls and the football stadium in pink
